Candidates Tournament: Aronian vs. Karjakin

Round 7 will be played Saturday at the Candidates Tournament for the 2016 World Chess Championship, which is held in the Russian capital city of Moscow.

In this round, Grandmaster (GM) Levon Aronian, who plays first board for the three-time World Chess Olympiad champions and the former World Team Chess champions Armenia, will face GM Sergey Karjakin (Russia), with whom he leads the current standings in this competition.

All matches will get underway at 3pm, Armenia standard time.

In the previous rounds, Aronian played draws with GM Anish Giri (Netherlands), former World Champion, GM Viswanathan Anand (India), GM Peter Svidler (Russia) and Italian GM Fabiano Caruana (USA), and defeated GM Veselin Topalov (Bulgaria) and GM Hikaru Nakamura (USA).

After 6 rounds, Levon Aronian and Sergey Karjakin are the leaders with 4 points, apiece.

The winner of the Candidates Tournament, which has about a €420-thousand prize fund, will be the challenger for the 2016 World Chess Championship against the reining champion, GM Magnus Carlsen (Norway), from November 11 to 30, in New York.
