London Chess Classic: Armenia’s Aronian starts campaign with draw

Grandmaster (GM) Levon Aronian played a draw in Friday’s first round of the 2015 London Chess Classic super tournament, which is the final leg in the Grand Chess Tour.

Aronian—who plays first board for the three-time World Chess Olympiad champions and the formerWorld Team Chess champions Armenia—faced GM Fabiano Caruana (USA), and they decided to share points after the 51st move. 

In Saturday’s Round 2, the Armenian GM will play against former World Champion, GM Viswanathan Anand (India).

The second round will get underway at 6pm, Armenia time.

Nine rounds will be played in the 2015 London Chess Classic.

The day of rest is on December 9.

If the tournament leaders garner the same amount of points, a tiebreak will be played on December 14.
