Russian-Armenian athlete practically qualifies for 2016 Summer Olympics

By being declared a winner in the finals of the AIBA Pro Boxing (APB) tournament which was held in Novosibirsk, Russia, Armenian athlete Armen Zakaryan (Russia) has practically qualified for the 2016 Summer Olympics, which the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro will host.

In the final of the 64 kg weight class, Zakaryan defeated fellow Armenian boxer Artem Harutyunyan (Germany) on points.

To qualify for the Games of the XXXI Olympiad, however, Zakaryan will have to get into the ring against the winner of the second APB season, thus receiving the approval of the national federation.

Earlier, Armenian boxer Misha Aloyan (52 kg) had received the title of AIBA Pro Boxing winner.
