Sinquefield Cup: Aronian vs. Carlsen
10:50 5 September, 2014Grandmaster (GM) Levon Aronian will face GM Magnus Carlsen (Norway) in Friday’s penultimate Round 9 at the Sinquefield Cup chess tournament which is held in Saint Louis, USA. After eight rounds, Aronian—who is second in the World Chess Federation (FIDE) rankings and who plays first board for the three-time World Chess Olympiad champions and the former World Team Chess champions Armenia—has tallied 3 points, whereas 2013 World Chess Champion Carlsen, who tops the FIDE rankings, has amassed 4.5 points.
The first game between the two GMs had ended in victory for the Norwegian master.GM Fabiano Caruana (Italy), on the other hand, continues to lead the tournament with a near perfect 7.5 points. All matches will get underway at 11pm Armenia time.
