The World Chess Olympiad will be held in Tromsø, Norway, as planned.

World Chess Federation (FIDE) President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov has stated the above mentioned.

It was reported earlier that the event, which is slated for kick off on August 2, may be delayed due to late submission of applications, and financial problems.

“No, it will stay in Tromsø. The [FIDE] General Assembly adopted Tromsø and there is no further discussion,” Chessdom.com quoted Ilyumzhinov as saying.

Three-time World Chess Olympiad champions and former World Team Chess champions Armenia also will compete in the Tromsø Chess World Olympiad.
