2014 World Cup: Costa Rica advance to quarterfinals

The Costa Rican national football squad have booked their place—for the first time in their history—in the quarterfinals of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. In their 1/8 finals, Costa Rica defeated Greece in the postgame penalty shootout by a score of 5-3. The game had finished 1-1 following extra time.

 In the quarterfinals, Costa Rica will enter the pitch against the Netherlands.
