World Championship: Aronian finishes 6th

The World Blitz Championship of chess wrapped up in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

The 2013 World Chess Champion, Grandmaster (GM) Magnus Carlsen (Norway), who tops the World Chess Federation (FIDE) rankings, won the event by tallying 17 points in 21 rounds.

GM Levon Aronian—who is second in the FIDE rankings and who plays first board for the three-time World Chess Olympiad champions and the former World Team Chess champions Armenia—, on the other hand, amassed 13.5 points and placed sixth.

Armenian GMs Gabriel Sargissian finished ninth with 13 points, Zaven Andriasian came in 29th with 12 points, and Sergei Movsesian placed 68th with 10 points.

Earlier, Magnus Carlsen also had become the World Rapid Chess champion.
