World Championship: Armenian grandmasters compete

The World Blitz Championship of chess is held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

After eleven rounds, Grandmaster (GM) Levon Aronian—who is second in the World Chess Federation (FIDE) rankings and who plays first board for the three-time World Chess Olympiad champions and the former World Team Chess champions Armenia—has tallied 6.5 points.

From among Armenia’s other representatives, GMs Gabriel Sargissian, Sergei Movsesian, and Zaven Andriasian have amassed 8, 7, and 5 points, respectively.

The current leader of the tournament is the 2013 World Chess Champion, GM Magnus Carlsen (Norway), who tops the FIDE rankings, with 9 points.

The World Blitz Championship, which consists of 21 rounds, will wrap up on Friday.
