2014 World Cup: Reining champions crash out in group stage

The reining world and European champions Spain will go home after the group phase of the 2014 FIFA World Cup hosted by Brazil.   

In their second group match, Spain were beaten by Chile by a score of 0-2.Suffering their second defeat, the Spaniards, together with Australia, have lost the chance to advance to the World Cup playoffs.    

As a result, the Netherlands and Chile will advance to the next stage from Group B.  In the third—and final—round of the group-phase matches, the Netherlands and Chile will face each other to determine the group winner, whereas Spain and Australia will get on the pitch against one another so as not to become the last team in Group B.
