2014 World Cup: Neymar should’ve been off for hitting Modric – Rakitic

17:06   13 June, 2014

“Neymar is a great player, a real crack, one of the best players in the world, but he deserved a red card for the incident with Modric,” stated Croatia national football squad midfielder and FC Barcelona (Spain) newcomer Ivan Rakitic.

He spoke about the decision not to dismiss Brazil international and Barcelona striker Neymar for using an arm on Croatia international and FC Real Madrid (Spain) midfielder Luka Modric, and Croatia’s loss against the host nation in the 2014 World Cup opener in Brazil.

“If the referee had sent him [Neymar] off, he wouldn’t have been on the pitch to score two goals.
“I haven’t talked [about Barça] yet and I won’t now.

“Respect my decision and respect my World Cup. Talk about my national team, of which I’m very proud,” Football España quoted the Croatian international as saying.

Brazil defeated Croatia by a score 3-1 in Thursday’s first group match in the World Cup.
