Pirlo to leave Italy national squad

Veteran midfielder Andrea Pirlo, who became the Italian Serie A champion with Juventus in the season that wrapped up, will bid farewell to the Italy national football team.

“I am still thinking of retiring after this World Cup, as I have a certain age and it’s only right to leave the field to the next generation coming through. It would be pointless to continue.“[But] if I am needed [in the national squad], then there’s no problem in coming back,” Football Italia quoted the 34-year-old player as saying.

Andrea Pirlo has scored 13 goals in 109 appearances for the Azzurri.
