Round 8 in the Candidates Tournament 2014, which is held in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia, are played on Saturday.

Grandmaster (GM) Levon Aronian—who plays first board for the three-time World Chess Olympiad champions and the previous World Team Chess champions, Armenia, and who is second in the World Chess Federation (FIDE) rankings—faced former World Chess Champion, GM Viswanathan Anand (India).

But the two GMs ended their match already in the 19th move, and they agreed to a draw.

As a result, Aronian and Anand lead the current standings with 5 points, apiece

In the case of equal final results, however, the Indian GM will have an advantage over the Armenian chess master due to their face-to-face matches, since Aronian had lost to Anand in the first round of the tournament.

The other Round 8 games are still in progress.

The GM who wins this tournament will become the official World Chess Champion candidate, and compete against reining World Chess Champion, GM Magnus Carlsen (Norway), who tops the FIDE rankings, for the title of World Chess Champion.
