Candidates Tournament 2014: Aronian vs. Anand
09:38 22 March, 2014Round 8 in the Candidates Tournament 2014, which is held in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia, will be played on Saturday.
Grandmaster (GM) Levon Aronian—who plays first board for the three-time World Chess Olympiad champions and the previous World Team Chess champions, Armenia, and who is second in the World Chess Federation (FIDE) rankings—will face former World Chess Champion, GM Viswanathan Anand (India).After the seventh round, the two GMs lead the current standings with 4.5 points, apiece.
Aronian had lost to Anand in the first round.The GM who wins this tournament will become the official World Chess Champion candidate, and compete against reining World Chess Champion, GM Magnus Carlsen (Norway), who tops the FIDE rankings, for the title of World Chess Champion.
