Candidates Tournament 2014: Aronian vs. Andreikin

Round 6 in the Candidates Tournament 2014, which is held in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia, will be played on Wednesday.   

Grandmaster (GM) Levon Aronian—who plays first board for the three-time World Chess Olympiad champions and the previous World Team Chess champions, Armenia, and who is second in the World Chess Federation (FIDE) rankings—will face GM Dmitry Andreikin (Russia).After the fifth round, Aronian and Andreikin have garnered 3 and 1.5 points, respectively. Former World Chess Champion, GM Viswanathan Anand (India) heads the event with 3.5 points. In Round 1, Levon Aronian lost to Anand; in the second round, he defeated GM Shakhriyar Mamedyarov (Azerbaijan); in Round 3, he played a draw with GM Veselin Topalov (Bulgaria); in the fourth round, he beat multiple Russia champion, GM Peter Svidler; and in Round 5, he drew with GM Vladimir Kramnik (Russia).  

 The GM who wins this tournament will become the official World Chess Champion candidate, and compete against reining World Chess Champion, GM Magnus Carlsen (Norway), who tops the FIDE rankings, for the title of World Chess Champion
