Zurich: Aronian vs. Caruana

Armenian Grandmaster (GM) Levon Aronian will face GM Fabiano Caruana (Italy) in Monday’s last round of the classic tournament at 2014 Zurich Chess Challenge being held in the Swiss city.    

Ahead of the final fifth round of the event, Aronian—who plays first board for the three-time World Chess Olympiad champions and the previous World Team Chess champions, Armenia, and is second in the World Chess Federation (FIDE) rankings—has tallied 6 points, and he trails reining World Chess Champion, GM Magnus Carlsen (Norway) by one point.

In the first round of the classic chess tournament, the Armenian GM defeated former World Chess Champion, GM Viswanathan Anand (India); in Round 2 and 3, he played draws with Carlsen and GM Boris Gelfand (Israel), respectively; and in the fourth round, the Armenian GM defeated GM Hikaru Nakamura (USA).

The rapid chess tournament will be held on Tuesday.
