Armenian Grandmaster (GM) Levon Aronian dedicated his penultimate-round win against GM Hikaru Nakamura (USA)—in the 2014 Zurich Chess Challenge which is wrapping up in the Swiss city—to Armenia’s Ambassador to Switzerland, world-renowned French-Armenian singer Charles Aznavour.

Aznavour had met with 31-year-old Aronian—who plays first board for the three-time World Chess Olympiad champions and the previous World Team Chess champions, Armenia, and is second in the World Chess Federation (FIDE) rankings—before his Round 4 match.

“Today’s game is dedicated to our legend Charles Aznavour, who was so gracious to visit me here in Zurich,” Aronian tweeted and posted a photograph of their talk.

Ahead of the final fifth round at Zurich Chess Challenge, the Armenian GM trails reining World Chess Champion, GM Magnus Carlsen (Norway) by one point.  Levon Aronian will face GM Fabiano Caruana (Italy) in the final round.
