Armenia’s Aronian is sole leader

Grandmaster (GM) Levon Aronian defeated GM Michael Adams (England) in Round 5 of the Bilbao Chess Masters Final—also called the Grand Slam Chess Final—being held in Spain.   

As a result, Aronian—who plays first board for the three-time World Chess Olympiad champion Armenian national team and is ranked third in the FIDE ratings—is the tournament’s sole leader, with 9 points.   

To note, at the Bilbao Chess Masters Final, 3 points are awarded for a win and one point is given for a draw.
