The torch relay of the 2014 Winter Olympics, which will be held in Sochi, Russia, was launched Sunday in Russia.

It is noteworthy, however, that the torch went out in the hands of Shavarsh Karapetyan, 17-time World Champion in swimming, Forbes.ru reports.

“The fire went out because the valve of the torch was half closed; the worker had not opened it fully,” 2014 Winter Olympics Organizing Committee Chairman Dmitry Chernyshenko tweeted.

To note, the torch relay all through Russia will last 123 days.
