Buffon saved Italy – Prandelli

12:14   7 September, 2013

“It’s nice to suffer and still win. Bulgaria poured forward towards the end, they gambled it all, so it was predictable we would suffer,” stated Italian national football squad manager Cesare Prandelli.

The Italian specialist commented on the Azzurri’s 1-0 win over Bulgaria in the 2014 World Cup qualifier match on Friday.

Prandelli believes that Italy won as a result of a great performance by Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon.

“Gigi [i.e., Buffon] saved the result with an extraordinary performance.

“Unfortunately tonight we had to make three changes due to injuries so it became complicated.

“Our fitness levels are not optimal and that makes it all much more difficult.

“We’ll try to get as many players as possible back to fitness [in the forthcoming match against the Czechs],” Goal.com quotes Cesare Prandelli as saying.
