Henrikh Mkhitaryan: Respect my name

Henrikh Mkhitaryan called on the German media and fans to show respect for his Armenian name.

German media says Mkhitaryan’s surname has become a real challenge in terms of pronunciation. Making a couple of attempts to pronounce his name correctly, the Germans found the easiest way – to replace Mkhitaryan by Mikitaryan or simply Miki.

“I have come to a foreign country and respect its laws and traditions, but I do want them to respect my love for homeland and my roots. I will not adapt and change anything. I’m going to score goals, then they will definitely remember my name,” Sovetskiy Sport quotes Mkhitaryan as saying with the reference to the German press.
