10:36   9 August, 2013

Grandmaster (GM) Levon Aronian, who plays first board for the three-time World Chess Olympiad champion Armenian national team, has arrived in Tromsø, Norway, and he awaits the start of the Chess World Cup 2013.

“After a pleasant last dinner in Yerevan sampling the local wines, arrived in Tromso ready for the World Cup!” Aronian wrote in his Facebook account.

The tournament will kick off on Saturday.

Armenian GMs Vladimir Hakobian, Sergei Movsesian, and Hrant Melkumyan likewise will compete at the event.

Aronian is the first seed at the tournament because he is ranked second in the FIDE ratings.

Magnus Carlsen (Norway), who tops the FIDE list, will not compete in the Chess World Cup 2013, since he is preparing for his match against world champion Viswanathan Anand (India).
