Vazgen Tevanyan defeated Mamedov despite a broken finger and has reached the final
16:05 29 October, 2026World Championship bronze medalist and European champion Vazgen Tevanyan has reached the final of the World Freestyle Wrestling Championships, currently being held in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan.
In the semi-finals, Vazgen Tevanyan defeated Shamil Mamedov, a Dagestani wrestler representing Bulgaria, a two-time Russian champion, and a World Championship bronze medalist, with a score of 2–1. Despite suffering a fracture to the little finger of his right hand during the first period, Tevanyan managed to secure the victory.
Tevanyan will face American wrestler Bowen Bassett in the final.
