Harry Kane becomes Bayern Munich’s first Ballon d’Or winner in 45 years
14:10 27 October, 2026England striker Harry Kane has become the first Bayern Munich player in 45 years to win the Ballon d’Or. The last Bayern player to receive the award was German forward Karl-Heinz Rummenigge in 1981. Before him, fellow Germans Gerd Muller (1970) and Franz Beckenbauer (1972, 1976) had also won the prestigious award while playing for the German club.
The last Bundesliga player to win the Ballon d’Or was former Borussia Dortmund and Germany defender Matthias Sammer, who claimed the award in 1996.
Kane finished ahead of Kylian Mbappe, the French striker who plays for Spanish runners-up Real Madrid, and Lamine Yamal, forward for Spanish champions Barcelona and Spain’s World Cup and European Championship-winning national team, in the final top three.
