21:02 6 October, 2026The 39-year-old forward for the American club Inter Miami Lionel Messi spoke about his farewell match for the Argentina national team.
"The moment has arrived. I leave with a peaceful heart, having given my all. This jersey was my dream. My pride. My life.
Thank you for loving me so much, and thank you for the support. You will always be in my heart," Messi said in an Adidas video.
On October 7, Messi will play his final match for the Argentina national team against Benin. The game will take place at the Monumental Stadium in Buenos Aires.
Messi made his debut for Argentina in August 2005 during a friendly match against Hungary (2–1). He has played 207 matches for the national team across all competitions, recording 125 goals and 67 assists.
