WTA 1000: Armenia's Alina Charaeva advances to the Round of 16

Armenia's Alina Charaeva has advanced to the Round of 16 at the WTA-1000 tournament in Beijing, China.

The 118th racket of the world defeated world No. 129 Sonay Kartal of Great Britain 6-4, 6-1. The match lasted one hour and 31 minutes.

In the Round of 16, Charaeva will face the winner of the match between Marie Bouzkova (Czech Republic) and Zheng Qinwen (China).

Earlier, Charaeva claimed a sensational victory over world No. 1 Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan.

The prize fund for the Beijing tournament is $9.4 million.
