21:53 2 October, 2026In the third round of the UEFA Nations League Group C2, the Armenian national team played an away match against Cyprus in Nicosia. The team led by Yeghishe Melikyan lost 0–2.
In the 19th minute, Leonidas Konomis, the 25-year-old defender for the Cypriot club Apollon, opened the scoring (video).
In the 31st minute, Andronikos Kakoullis, the 25-year-old forward for the Cypriot club Omonia, doubled the hosts' lead (video).
In the 52nd minute, the 27-year-old defender for the Cyprus national team and AEK Larnaca Costas Pileas was sent off after stepping on the foot of Artyom Bandikyan, the 21-year-old midfielder for the Armenian national team and CSKA Moscow (video). Bandikyan was replaced by 28-year-old defender Davit Terteryan of Yerevan's Alashkert.
The Armenian players failed to capitalize on their numerical advantage.
In the group's other match, Montenegro defeated Latvia 2–1 in Riga and currently leads the group with 9 points. Cyprus moved up to second place with 4 points, a position that secures a spot in the play-offs for promotion to League B.
The Armenian team sits in third place with 3 points.
On October 5, in the fourth round, the Armenian national team will play away against Montenegro, a side that had previously won 3–2 in Yerevan.
