Mourinho: Ronaldo needs to learn to control his ego
13:11 1 October, 2026Head coach of Spanish runners-up Real Madrid Jose Mourinho commented on 41-year-old forward Cristiano Ronaldo's departure from the Portuguese national team.
"Cristiano is a winner. He has an ego, and for 20 years, that ego has brought him goals, titles, and records. That’s normal. But now he needs to learn to control his ego. Football won't wait for him. His body isn't what it used to be.
As for Jorge Jesus, he is a good coach who knows how to work with big-name players and isn't afraid of them. If he makes a decision, he believes it will benefit the team," O Globo quotes Mourinho as saying.
Ronaldo had previously commented on his decision to leave the Portuguese national team.
