Chess Olympiad: Opponents of the Armenian teams in round 8

The matches of the 8th round of the World Chess Olympiad, taking place in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, will be held on September 24.

The Armenian national team will face the Netherlands. Both teams have scored 12 points and share 2nd through 6th place.

In previous rounds, the Armenian team defeated Barbados (4–0), Scotland (3.5–0.5), Sweden (2.5–1.5), and Argentina (2.5–1.5); drew with China (2–2); defeated Iran (2.5–1.5); and drew with the USA (2–2).

The Netherlands team defeated Hong Kong (3–1), North Macedonia (2.5–1.5), Australia (2.5–1.5), and Greece (3–1); lost to India (1–3); and defeated Israel (4–0) and Bulgaria (3.5–0.5).

In the 8th round, the Armenian women's national team will face the USA team, coached by former Armenian national team member Melikset Khachiyan.

The Armenian team is currently tied for 3rd–7th place with 12 points. The USA team has 11 points and is tied for 8th–11th place.

In previous rounds, the Armenian chess players defeated Hong Kong (3.5–0.5), Singapore (3–1), and Croatia (4–0); lost to Kazakhstan (1–3); and defeated Peru (3–1), Latvia (3–1), and Azerbaijan (2.5–1.5).

The USA team defeated Andorra (4–0), Belgium (4–0), Cuba (3.5–0.5), and Spain (3.5–0.5); drew with Uzbekistan (2–2); lost to India (1–3); and defeated Switzerland (3–1).

The Olympiad consists of 11 rounds.
