19:05 23 September, 2026In the 7th round of the World Chess Olympiad held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, the Armenian national team played to a draw (2–2) against the top-seeded US team.
Hayk Martirosyan drew with Fabiano Caruana, and Shant Sargsyan drew with Hans Niemann. Gabriel Sargissian lost to Awonder Liang.
The final game was concluded by Robert Hovhannisyan, who defeated Wesley So while playing with the black pieces.
The Armenian team has earned 12 team points.
In previous rounds, the Armenian team defeated Barbados (4–0), Scotland (3.5–0.5), Sweden (2.5–1.5), and Argentina (2.5–1.5), drew with China (2–2), and defeated Iran (2.5–1.5).
The Olympiad consists of 11 rounds.
