Chess Olympiad: Opponents of the Armenian teams in round 7

The opponents of the Armenian national chess teams in the seventh round of the World Olympiad, held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, which will be held on September 23 after a one-day rest, are known.

The Armenian national team will face the USA team—the top-seeded squad—which includes Levon Aronian, the former leader of the Armenian national team.

In previous rounds, the Armenian team defeated Barbados (4–0), Scotland (3.5–0.5), Sweden (2.5–1.5), and Argentina (2.5–1.5); drew with China (2–2); and beat Iran (2.5–1.5).

The USA team defeated Iraq (3.5–0.5), Mongolia (2.5–1.5), Denmark (2.5–1.5), and Ukraine (3.5–0.5); lost to Germany (1.5–2.5); and defeated Norway (2.5–1.5).

The Armenian national team shares 2nd and 3rd place with China, having 11 points, and trails the leader, Uzbekistan, by one point. The US team shares 4th through 14th place with 10 points.

In the 7th round, the Armenian women's national team will face the team from Azerbaijan.

In previous rounds, the Armenian female chess players defeated Hong Kong (3.5–0.5), Singapore (3–1), and Croatia (4–0); lost to Kazakhstan (1–3); and defeated Peru (3–1) and Latvia (3–1).

The Azerbaijani team defeated Guatemala (4–0), Denmark (4–0), Sweden (2.5–1.5), England (2.5–1.5), and Serbia (3–1), but lost to Kazakhstan (1.5–2.5).

Both teams have 10 points and share 3rd through 13th place. The leaders are Kazakhstan and China, with 12 points each.

A total of 11 rounds will be played at the Olympiad.
