Chess Olympiad: Armenia's team defeated the Iranian team
18:56 21 September, 2026In the 6th round of the World Chess Olympiad held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, the Armenian national team faced Iran and secured a 2.5–1.5 victory.
Hayk Martirosyan drew with Amin Tabatabaei, Robert Hovhannisyan with Bardiya Daneshvar, and Shant Sargsyan with Mahdi Gholami. Gabriel Sargsyan scored the winning point by defeating Reza Mahdavi.
In previous rounds, the Armenian team had defeated Barbados (4–0), Scotland (3.5–0.5), Sweden (2.5–1.5), and Argentina (2.5–1.5), and drew with China (2–2).
The Olympiad consists of 11 rounds.
