Chess Olympiad: Armenia's teams started with a victory
21:24 16 September, 2026Armenia's national teams kicked off the World Chess Olympiad—taking place in Samarkand, Uzbekistan—with convincing victories.
The men's team defeated the Barbados team with a score of 4–0.
Grandmasters Robert Hovhannisyan, Shant Sargsyan, Gabriel Sargsyan, and Manuel Petrosyan secured victories.
The women's team defeated the Hong Kong team with a score of 3.5–0.5.
Grandmaster Mariam Mkrtchyan, Woman International Master Susanna Gaboyan, and Anahit Mkrtchyan each scored one point.
Grandmaster Elina Danielian’s game ended in a draw.
The Olympiad will consist of 11 rounds.
