SP Open: Elina Avanesyan's winning start

World No. 155 Elina Avanesyan started with a victory at the WTA-250 SP Open tournament in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

In the first round, the Armenian representative faced world No. 144 Julia Riera of Argentina and won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4. The match lasted 1 hour and 28 minutes.

In the second round, Elina Avanesyan will face the winner of the match between Armenia's Alina Charaeva and China's You Xiaodi.

The prize fund for the SP Open is $283,000.
