Platini: I nominate Kvaratskhelia for the Ballon d'Or
14:05 31 August, 2026Three-time Ballon d'Or winner, former French national team player, and former UEFA president Michel Platini has named the favorites for the 2026 Ballon d'Or.
"It is difficult to predict the Ballon d'Or winner in the post-Messi and Ronaldo era. The race for the Ballon d'Or has become more open, as we saw last year.
Kylian Mbappe is the most prolific among the favorites. We saw that Rodri is crucial for the Spanish national team; he played brilliantly at the World Cup. Lamine Yamal is the most talented. Fabián Ruiz has won every title.
But I would prefer Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. He won the Champions League with PSG. I would award the prize to him. However, I am not saying that Khvicha is the favorite. Four or five players deserve the award this year," L’Equipe quotes Platini as saying.
The 70th Ballon d'Or ceremony will take place on October 26 in London.
