US Open. Sensational defeat of Djokovic at the start
10:43 31 August, 2026The 24-time Grand Slam champion and world number 5 Novak Djokovic suffered a shock defeat at the US Open in New York.
The Serbian tennis player faced world number 49 Mariano Navone of Argentina in the first round and lost 6-7 (5-7), 7-5, 6-4, 2-6, 1-6. The match lasted 4 hours and 40 minutes.
During the match, Djokovic sought medical assistance several times, suffered from nausea, and took medication.
Navone's next opponent will be the winner of the match between Italian Matteo Berrettini (world No. 43) and Swiss Stan Wawrinka (world No. 127).
Navone is the first player since 2006 to defeat Djokovic in the first round of a Grand Slam tournament.
The US Open prize fund is $108 million.
