Men’s chess team is Armenia’s top squad for 2012

YEREVAN. – The three-time World Chess Olympiad champion Armenian national men’s team is recognized as Armenia’s 2012 Team of the Year.  

As a result of a survey which the Federation of Sports Journalists of Armenia conducted, the “Mika” Yerevan Chess Club women’s team, which became the Vice Champion of Europe, came second. And men’s Greco-Roman wrestling team, which came third in the European Championship, was recognized as the third top squad of Armenia for 2012.      

Thirty sports journalists took part in the aforesaid survey to determine the country’s top athletes and teams. 

To note, Grandmaster Levon Aronian, who plays first board for the Armenian men’s national chess team and who is ranked second the world, is fourth in the list of Armenia’s top ten athletes for 2012.
