2026 World Cup: Lionel Messi overtakes Mbappe in Golden Boot race

In the race for the Golden Boot of the best scorer of the FIFA World Cup, Lionel Messi - the 39-year-old striker of the national team of Argentina and the American Inter Miami - beat the 27-year-old striker of France and Real Madrid Kylian Mbappe in the semifinals (2:1), making two assists.

Both scored 8 goals apiece. In case of a tie, assists are counted. Messi made 4 assists, Mbappe-3:

Argentina will play European champion Spain in the final on July 19. England and France will play a match for the third place on July 18.
