For the first time in the history of the FIFA World Cup, the top four national teams in the FIFA world rankings—as of June 11—will face each other the semifinals of this competition, the BBC reports.

In November 2025, FIFA announced that the draw for the knockout phase would be made so that the top teams would not play against each other until the semifinals.

In the 2026 World Cup semifinal, world ranking leaders and world 2022 World Cup runners-up France will play reigning European champions Spain, who are third in the world rankings.

And World Cup titleholders Argentina, who are ranked second in the world, will play fourth-ranked England.

The respective fixtures are as follows:

Tuesday
France vs. Spain: 23:00 (Armenia time)
Wednesday
England vs. Argentina: 23:00
