They have both scored 8 goals each, with Messi playing in 5 matches and Mbappe in 6.
In third place is Norway and English Premier League runners-up Manchester City's 25-year-old forward Erling Haaland, who has netted 7 goals in 4 matches.
In fourth place is the 32-year-old striker of England and German Bundesliga titleholders Bayern Munich, Harry Kane, with 6 goals in 5 games.
And the 29-year-old striker of France as well as reigning French Ligue 1 champions and UEFA Champions League winners PSG, Ousmane Dembele, is in fifth place, with 5 goals in 6 games.
