Spain set World Cup record
15:07 7 July, 2026The Spanish national football team have set a historic FIFA World Cup record with a 1-0 victory over Portugal in the Round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup.
Reigning European champions Spain are the only team to have kept a clean sheet in six consecutive World Cup matches, excluding penalty shootouts.
Spain began this streak in the 2022 World Cup Round of 16 against Morocco (0-0, 0-3 on penalties).
At the current 2026 World Cup, Spain have drawn with Cape Verde (0-0), and won against Saudi Arabia (4-0), Uruguay (1-0), Austria (3-0), and Portugal (1-0).
Spain's opponent in the quarterfinals will be Belgium.
