2026 World Cup: Spain beat Portugal to reach quarterfinals

Spain have reached the quarterfinals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The reigning European champions beat Portugal 1-0 in their Round of 16 match in Arlington, Texas, USA.

Arsenal midfielder Mikel Merino scored the only goal in the first minute of added time.

Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo, 41, playing in his sixth World Cup, played his last World Cup match.

Spain will face the winners of the USA vs. Belgium clash in the Round of 16.
