2026 World Cup: Netherlands, Japan draw

The Netherlands played Japan in Arlington, USA, but missed out on a last-gasp victory, and drew 2-2 in the first round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup group stage.

Netherlands and Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk opened the scoring in the 50th minute.
Reims striker Keito Nakamura equalized in the 57th minute.

West Ham United striker Crysencio Summerville netted the Netherlands' second goal in the 64th minute.

And Japan avoided defeat thanks to a goal scored by Crystal Palace midfielder Daichi Kamada in the 89th minute.

The Netherlands on Saturday will face Sweden, while Japan will play against Tunisia in the second round of Group F.
