2026 World Cup: Mexico make winning start

Mexico, one of the host countries, have made a winning start to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
In the opening match in Mexico City, they defeated South Africa 2-0.

Al Qadsiah's 29-year-old striker Julian Quinones opened the scoring in the 9th minute.

And Fulham's 35-year-old striker Raul Jimenez doubled the hosts' lead in the 67th minute.

Group A also includes the Czech Republic and South Korea, whose match will kick off at 06:00 Armenia time.
Mexico will play South Korea in the second round on June 19.
