Champions League: Hansi Flick criticizes Barca vs. Atletico match referees

The German manager of reigning Spanish La Liga champions Barcelona, Hansi Flick, slammed the refereeing in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League of the quarterfinals against Atletico Madrid, where Barca lost 0-2 at home.

Atletico defender Marc Pubill had stopped the ball with his hand in his own penalty area when it was put into play by his goalkeeper Juan Musso, but was not cautioned with a yellow card, which would have been his second and he would have been sent off.

"I don't understand what happens in a situation where the goalkeeper starts the game and the defender stops the ball with his hand and puts it in again after the game. For me it was clearly a second yellow card and a penalty. The VAR officials should explain why they didn't review that incident. I can't believe there was no yellow card, and in his case it would have been a sending off. It's unfair. We have to accept this score and fight in the second leg," Flick said, ESPN reports.

Barcelona's Spanish defender Pau Cubarsi was shown a red card in the 44th minute.
The second leg will be played in Madrid on April 14.
