10th World Chess Champion Boris Spassky dies aged 88

Boris Spassky, the 10th World Chess Champion, has died at the age of 88 in Moscow, TASS reports
In 1966, Spassky had lost to Armenian grandmaster Tigran in their match for the chess crown. Three years later, however, Spassky had beaten Petrosian become world chess champion.

But in 1972, Spassky failed to defend the title, losing to American Bobby Fischer.

Boris Spassky was a two-time chess champion of the USSR, and a 10-time champion of the world Chess Olympiad.
