I am very happy for the result that my boys showed. The head coach of the Armenian national artistic gymnastics team, Hakob Serobyan, who returned to the homeland Tuesday, told this to Armenian News-NEWS.am at Zvartnots International Airport of Yerevan.
"I would have liked for us to win a gold medal, but we all saw what happened in Paris. The battle was very huge. I am satisfied with the results of Artur Davtyan [in the Vault exercise]. In the final, he participated the last. In fact, it is difficult when you are the last one [to perform]. And it is very difficult to master the nervous system. Is a struggle of nerves.
In the last stage of the World Cup tournament, Artur had defeated the Filipino gymnast who became an Olympic champion [in Paris].
He [i.e. Davtyan] could have [beaten him] here [in Paris] as well if he had stood fully cleanly, not taken a step at the end of the two jumps. Artur performed his jumps well, but the last steps were unnecessary.
[Armenia’s] Vahagn Davtyan did his best performances [in the Rings exercise] in Paris. Both had injuries, but on the day of the competition they had forgotten everything and risen to the competition platform. Everything turned out very well," added Hakob Serobyan said.
To note, Serobyan was in the refereeing committee at the Olympic Games in Paris.
