Djokovic's next opponent will be the winner of the match between world No. 188 Alejandro Moro Cañas of Spain and world No. 277 Jacob Fearnley of Great Britain.
Alexander Zverev, the fourth ranked player in the world, also advanced to the second round, representing Germany.
Zverev's next opponent will be the winner of a showdown between American Marcos Giron, ranked 46th in the world, and Henry Searle, ranked 539th in the world.
The prize money for the Wimbledon tournament is £50 million.
