In the 1/8 finals of the EFL Cup, English champion Manchester City beat vice-champion Liverpool 3-2 to advance to the quarterfinals.

Manchester United, Nottingham Forest, Charlton, Leicester City, Newcastle, Southampton and Wolverhampton all reached the quarter-finals.
