Messi: It’s incredibly important to start World Cup right, get first 3 points

Lionel Messi, the 35-year-old star forward of PSG and the Argentina national football team, pointed to the primary objective of Argentina ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which will start on November 20 in Qatar.

"It’s wrong to think about the playoffs and make predictions now. We need to think only about the first match and the group stage. It’s incredibly important to start right, to get the first 3 points which will give you peace of mind and confidence for the next step.

During the last World Cup, we [i.e., Argentina] thought about the next stages in the Round of 16, but things turned out differently. Yes, we know that the national team is in a very good condition now. I feel a lot of similarities between today's team and the team of 2014, but we must not forget that the World Cup makes very high demands," Ole quoted Messi as saying.

Argentina's opponents in the 2022 World Cup group stage will be Saudi Arabia, Mexico, and Poland.

Argentina had lost to Germany in the final of the 2014 World Cup, and to France—in the Round of 16 of the 2018 World Cup.
