IOC extends sanctions on Russia, Belarus

09:52   19 October, 2022

The president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced the extension of the sanctions on athletes and teams of Russia and Belarus. The reason is the actions of the Russian armed forces in Ukraine, which have been ongoing since February.

The main assembly of the Association of National Olympic Committees is taking place in Seoul, the capital of South Korea, during which Thomas Bach announced to maintain the instruction to the international sports federations in force, reports championat.com.

The teams of Russia and Belarus have been removed from all international competitions.

In some sports, the athletes of these countries perform in a neutral status.

Due to these sanctions, Russia and Belarus will not be able to participate in the qualifying tournaments for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
